We’ve offered free trials of GameMaker in the past, but with the introduction of our new Free tier, you can download our game engine, create the 2D game of your dreams, and never need to worry about your license expiring.
How to get GameMaker for free
You can download GameMaker for free by visiting our Pricing page, where you’ll be able to check out our four tiers: Free, Indie, Creator, and Enterprise.
What’s the difference between the four tiers?
The only difference between the four GameMaker tiers are the platforms you can export your games to.
Our GameMaker tiers are structured to support you through your entire journey as an indie game developer. Create your game for free, and move up the tiers when you’re ready to share your 2D creations with the world.
Why is GameMaker now available for free?
Earlier this year, GameMaker was acquired by Opera, a browser developer and consumer internet brand, with GameMaker forming the cornerstone of Opera’s new Opera Gaming division - alongside Opera GX - the world’s first browser built specifically for gamers.
Stuart Poole, GM at GameMaker, said: “Our vision has always been to try and make it as easy as possible for anyone to make their own awesome games and today’s announcement represents a major milestone in the realisation of that vision.
“By making GameMaker free for everyone, we’re removing a major barrier so that anyone can try game making for the first time and start to unleash their inner creativity without any time limits.”
Krystian Kolondra, EVP PC & Gaming at Opera, added: “By making GameMaker free for everyone, we believe that creating games will soon become a popular part of everyday life for many people.”
